Standon Calling Continued: Freeland
Saturday, August 8
After Golden Silvers, Adam Freeland played a stormer of a set with his new band ‘Freeland’, buy his new album here, it’s great. We got talking backstage after the gig to find out a bit more about how this new live act has come about.
Caspar – Your obviously putting a lot of energy into the band at the moment. Do you see you self headed more in this direction in the near future?
Adam – Well, Freeland is the second incarnation of band, the first one called ‘Now and Then’ was great fun but this is better. I’m still Djing as well but, yeah, I’m putting a lot of time into the band, and really enjoying it.
We saw Adam play on the Arcadia Stage at Glade, a huge outdoor space wreckage with a turret upon which sat Mr Freeland smashing out tunes to a 360 degree crowd as flames were propelled from metal posts everywhere. It was pretty mental.
Caspar –The Band.it team at Love That Tune has seen a lot of you this summer, we saw you at Glade, and Secret Garden Party. Djing at the stage Arcadia at Glade this summer must have been fun, what a wicked stage you’ve had a big summer for festivals…..
Adam – Arcadia was an awesome stage, we played at Arcadia at Glastonbury as well with the whole band, although it was much bigger there. But the best gig this summer for us was probably on the Glade stage at Glade where me and the band played before Bookashade. That was a good gig.
Rumour had it that LA had snapped up another British talent, and Adam had moved out there.
Adam – I actually moved out there for a girl…...but that didn’t work out, but I still live there part time and love it. I spend the rest of my time in Brighton.
Caspar – It must be nice to have a more hands on live approach having come from your DJ background.
Adam - It’s nice to be able to say something, you know, lyrics, rather than being a mute DJ. Although I can tell you theirs a hell of a lot more work setting up. It really makes you appreciate how easy Dj’s have it. There are pro’s and con’s to calling ourselves Freeland. Although it makes it easier for people to identify with us from the past work I have done, I think a lot of people come to a gig expecting something pretty different to what they get. We are essentially a rock band.
Caspar – Are you guys hanging around for the rest of the festival? There have been some great bands performing like Golden Silvers who played just before you, did you get to se them?
Adam – Yeah the Golden Silvers were really good. We will definitely hang around to catch the friendly fires, I really want to see them.
Anyhoo, guys, go check out Freeland’s new album, ‘Cope’, which boasts a really nice blend of rock and contemporary big beat dance music. They have had a very successful summer touring and Band.it cannie wait to get their hands on the next instalment.
